What if I can't find the words?

I encourage everyone to be healthier. I suggest ways our diet can have a smaller negative impact on the planet. But I implore you to think about how we treat the animals. I would love nothing more than to convince you to open your eyes, and your heart, and be willing to make some changes, because the way things are now is just wrong. What if I can't find the words?

So that we can have inexpensive eggs on grocery store shelves, baby chicks are inspected, and the males, deemed worthless by the industry, are left to suffocate in piles, or in plastic trash bags. Or they are ground alive. Innocent creatures given life by whatever God you believe in, worthless. Poultry carries so little regard that there are no laws to protect them against cruelty. What if I can't find the words?

Babies are dragged away from their mothers. Mothers imprisoned in gestation crates. Painful procedures, antibiotics, growth hormones, abuse and neglect. Laws are being proposed right and left to make taping and exposing the conditions on factory farms a crime. What don't they want you to see? If you can bring yourself to watch, it's sickening. It hurts somewhere deep inside, makes you want to do something. I'll keep asking you to watch, keep trying to persuade you to join me. But, what if I can't find the words?
